“Viñedo Chadwick 2013 vintage was a validation of our focus and attention to detail approach in our vineyards, a unique estate of 15 hectares in Alto Maipo. Gravelly soils, farmed with minimal tillage accompanied by our meticulous picking and sorting decision gave us a wine with vivid, dense red colour bursting with freshness and red fruit. The wine is elegantly layered and is incredibly appealing with its silky and refined tannins, supporting a delicious texture and prolongued by a lingering finish. The 2013 Viñedo Chadwick combines great structure and elegance with a sense of restraint, providing great pleasure even at the early stage of its life.” Francisco Baettig, Winemaker

The top of the range in reds is the 2013 Viñedo Chadwick, a Cabernet Sauvignon from Puente Alto in Maipo, the classical zone for the grapes, as Aconcagua is too cold for it. They consider 2013 a 'classical' vintage in the appellation, and the grapes from their 15-hectare property at 650 meters altitude planted with a massale selection in 1992 were handpicked early in the morning and transported to the winery in Aconcagua in 12-kilo boxes. Fermentation took place at 24-28 degrees Celsius in small-volume stainless steel tanks with a total maceration time ranging from 23 to 40 days, depending on the lot. The wine was racked to French oak barrels, 90% of them new, where it underwent malolactic fermentation and was kept for 22 months. There are notes of red cherries intermixed with the more classical blackberries and tobacco leaves, spices and cigar box aromas; it is very subtle, layered and complex, even though the wine shows very young. The result is a fresher wine with moderate alcohol and the oak feels better integrated, even though it's still mostly new. Here the conditions of the vintage played in flavor of obtaining fresher, more balanced wines. There are the telltale Cabernet tannins, very polished and fine, but with grip; the texture is velvety, lifted by a fine thread of acidity. I also previewed a sketch of the 2014 blend where winemaker Francisco Baettig has implemented some changes; he harvested earlier in some lots that, blended with the rest, will result in a wine with less alcohol. In 2015, the whole vineyard was harvested early and none of the lots are above 13.8% alcohol; I look forward to those changes.

I like this Reserva from RdD. 100% Tempranillo aged for 24 months in oak barrels.
3.8 stars with more aging potential.
A deep ruby red and purple shades. Thick long legs in the glass.
On the nose medium intense aromas of blackberries, black cherries, black raspberries, horse saddle, leather and slightly oak.

90 pts Given the quality of the Crianza I really was delighted to find this Reserva, needs way more time to fully flower however, still very enjoyable for me now. The Crianza is ready now, but this shows sleeping intensity and great future potential and longevity, wait a few years however.
Typical earthy red fruit with good use of oak, dusty vanilla. Weighty, full with a long finish, it will be a star in the future.
