The 2014 growing season was one of the driest on record for California’s central coast. A warm spring awoke the vines earlier than usual, but during bloom the weather was impeccable. We waited until the end of September to begin our first Syrah harvest, allowing for a longer maturation process and greater complexity. The 2014 PharaohMoans Syrah hails from two different terroirs: one from clay-rich land, allowing for stronger tannins, and the other from hillsides graced with limestone, adding exceptional freshness to the blends. We fermented our final six lots separately to capture an ideal fruit and tannin structure. We then delicately pumped over the wine for the next 35 days for optimal extraction and even, cool temperatures. The wine was aged 17 months in a combination of new oak from six French coopers using a light to medium toast to preserve the integrity of the fruit. Flavors of blackberry, creamy licorice, melted chocolate and dark cracked pepper ooze from this wine. Its aging potential is 10-15 years. A balanced, fruit-forward wine exhibiting flavors of cherry, raspberry purée, and melted chocolate with smoky and spicy aromas. Good acidity, firm tannins and a strong sense of minerality will allow this wine to age gracefully for 10-15 years.

I like this Reserva from RdD. 100% Tempranillo aged for 24 months in oak barrels.

3.8 stars with more aging potential.

A deep ruby red and purple shades. Thick long legs in the glass.

On the nose medium intense aromas of blackberries, black cherries, black raspberries, horse saddle, leather and slightly oak.

  • Soham Phillips

This amazing powerhouse from Ribera del Duero. Tinto Pesquera Reserva 2012 - Bodegas Alejandro Fernández. Decanting is advised 👌🍷 delicious cherry, vanilla, leather and cederbox with cigars. Milk chocolat, forrest floor, laurel. Great lenght and depth Amazing wine!

90 pts Given the quality of the Crianza I really was delighted to find this Reserva, needs way more time to fully flower however, still very enjoyable for me now. The Crianza is ready now, but this shows sleeping intensity and great future potential and longevity, wait a few years however.

Typical earthy red fruit with good use of oak, dusty vanilla. Weighty, full with a long finish, it will be a star in the future.
